Murders of a gruesome kind are taking place one after another in the capital bringing in forefront the role the law enforcers are playing in reducing these crime incidents. Within just 24 hours of the murder of a woman and his son in Kakrail, another incident of twin murder took place in Badda of the capital Thursday. In each of these cases, dead bodies were found with slit throat or with signs of strangulation. True law enforcers are not committing these crimes, but when crime incidents rise dramatically, common and peace-loving people feel insecure and they look to them for improvement in the situation.
In fact, they have to take the blame of increase in crime in society, since the relevant departments of police are failing to unravel the mystery of many crimes as yet. We see years after years are passing, but police is failing to make any headway into these crimes. And it is also not wholly true that police are not committing any crime by themselves. Apart from petty crimes, they are also indulging in crime of serious nature. Only a few days ago, seven members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police abducted a businessman in Cox’s Bazar for ransom, but they were caught red-handed with the ransom money by a team of military there. This is very unfortunate.
It is rather a hopeless situation in which law abiding citizens of the country presently find themselves in. At a time when crimes in society are increasing, it is natural for us to expect that through taking proper measures, law enforcing agencies would bring under control the security situation. But contrary to it, we are finding that police personnel are getting themselves involved in serious crimes.
While social scientists should delve deep into why crimes are increasing in society where out of family disputes people are being killed, the law enforcers must unravel the mystery why and by whom a particular murder is taking place. If these questions remain answered for a long time, without the criminal duly punished, we can hardly expect that security situation will improve in the country.
Surely, the increase in serious crimes is a sign of moral decadence that is going on in our society, and social and political leaders ought to realize this before the situations becomes even bleaker. The ultimate burden of rescuing people from the present condition is squarely rest on them.
