Installing Fibre Optics In Different Districts

BTRC wants explanation from Banglalink

BTRC wants explanation
from Banglalink

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has sought explanation from Banglalink for breaching of the contract by installing fibre optics without BTRC approval.
On August 10, BTRC issued a letter asking the telecom operator to explain the action of installing optical fibre in different districts of the country without BTRC ‘s concern within five days. The last day to submit explanation was over on Monday (August 17), said BTRC.
Only Nationwide Telecom Transmission Network (NTTN) has the right to do that, the letter added.
According to the letter, if it is proven that the operator has placed fibre optics without BTRC‘s concern, Banglalink might be fined Tk 300 crore or if the fine is not paid  10 years of imprisonment and  in the worst case scenario Banglalink might even lose their licence.
Letter signed by Sharmin Sultana, senior assistant director of engineering and operation department, has asked to give explanation of the whole thing within five working days. According to that, Monday was the last day to submit  explanation.
Taimur Rahman, senior director,   government relation and regulatory affairs of Banglalink, told The Independent that they have received a copy of the letter, but they are confused by getting a letter like this as they have not installed any optical fibre like that.
When asked the engineering and operation department of BTRC, they said that they have enough evidence to prove the whole thing.
Accorging to the BTRC, Banglalink have installed sixteen kilometre fibre cable in Shariotpur, 55 kilometer in Khulna and they have also placed fibre cable at Chashara in Narayanganj.
BTRC will take necessary action after getting their reply and evidence, said an BTRC official.
Taimur Rahman has said that they have already submitted explanation to the BTRC  and they have not received any reply of any sort till yesterday evening.
Sources at engineering and operation department of BTRC said that probably Banglalink has submitted the letter to the higher official and it would take time for them to get the letter.
