As part of the ongoing reshuffle in the civil administration, the government will soon promote around 500 bureaucrats of three ranks in November, with more promotions taking place in two other phases. Those in the senior assistant secretary post will be promoted to the post of deputy secretary (DS), the DS to joint secretary (JS), and the JS to the post of additional secretary (AS).
The government will promote at least 150 officials holding joint secretary rank to the post of Additional secretary, sources said. To promote the officials, a series of meetings of the Superior Selection Board (SSB) have been held, with SSB chief and Cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam in the chair.
A high-ranking official of the public administration ministry told The Independent that at least 500 officials of the administration would be promoted by this month.
“At least 150 joint secretaries are going to be promoted to the higher post (additional secretary) within a short time,” he said. Public administration ministry sources said officials of the 1986 batch of BCS administration and officials who have been left out are likely to be promoted to the post of additional secretaries.
As of November 2, a total of 78 senior secretaries, secretaries and acting secretaries are now working against 75 duty posts, while 442 additional secretaries are working against 110 posts. A total of 789 joint secretaries are working in different ministries and divisions against 341 sanctioned posts, while 1,554 deputy secretaries are working against 828 sanctioned posts.
At the same time, 1,469 senior assistant secretaries are working against 2,340 sanctioned posts in the civil administration.
