Teenager killed over memory card in Chandpur

Chandpur: A teenager was allegedly beaten to death over a trifling/allegation of stealing a memory card of mobile phone at Nayahat Bazar area in Faridganj upazila of the district on Tuesday evening, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Foysal Hossain, 16, son of Muslim Gazi of Chirka Chandpur village of the upazila. The businessmen of Nayahat Bazar told UNB correspondent that Rasel Hossain, a neighbour of Foysalm raised an allegation against him of stealing a memory card. On Tuesday evening they locked into an altercation over the allegation and on a stage Rasel gave Foysal a good beat and leaving him unconscious condition. Later locals rescued Foysal and sent to Faridganj Upazila health complex where doctor declare him death around 9pm.

Md Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Faridganj Police Station said on information police personnel were sent to the spot and they are trying to arrest the accused.

 

Criminal’s bullet-hit body recovered

Police recovered the bullet-hit body of a listed local top criminal from Bater Pukurpar area of Balaishpur in the district town yesterday. The deceased was Masum Billah alias Laden Masum, of Laharkandi in the upazila. Md Mukter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chandraganj Police Station said a gunfight ensued between two criminal groups - Kala Masud Shahadat Bahini and Laden Masum Bahini - in Balaishpur area at about 3am that left Masum dead on the spot.

Masum, an accused in 28 cases, including murder and robbery, was on the run for long, said the OC. On information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area early and recovered Masum Billah’s bullet-hit body. Later, the body was sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police also recovered two light guns, 11 rounds of bullets and 30 cocktails from the spot.

3 of a family commit suicide

MUNSHIGANJ: Three members of a family allegedly killed themselves by taking poison at Sreedharpur village under Sreenagar upazila of the district last night, reports BSS.

The deceased were identified as Md Momin, 50, a fish trader of the village, his wife Lubna Begum, 44, and their daughter Sanjida, 9.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) M Saifur Islam said they killed themselves by taking poison around 7:30 pm over family feud.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies from the spot.

Fire breaks out at jute mill

A fire broke out at two godowns of a jute mill in Nawapara of Abhaynagar upazila in the district on Wednesday afternoon. On information, five fire fighting units of Jessore and Nawapara stations rushed to the spot and started working to douse the fire, said Assistant Director of Jessore Fire Brigade Station Abdul Wadud.

The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.

Two die after taking liquor

Sirajganj: Two men died after drinking toxic liquor at Sonamukhi Bazaar area in Kazipur upazila of the district on Wednesday, reports UNB. The deceased were identified as Motiar Rahman Moti, 42, son of Joynal Abedin of Panchgachhi village and Belal Hossain, 50, son of Iaarbokh of Paschim Khukshia village of the upazila.

Samit Kunda, officer-in-charge of Kazipur Police Station, said Moti and Belal drank toxic liquor at the bazaar in the early hours of Wednesday and fell sick. Later, Moti died at his home while Belal at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital while undergoing treatment there, the OC added.
