Kathin Chibar Dan, the biggest religious festival of the Buddhist people in Chitagong Hill Tracts (CHT), started yesterday at Rajban Bihar in Rajbari area of Rangamati sadar with great enthusiasm and festivity. Various religious programmes were arranged at the temple to mark the 44th Kathin Chibar Dan means ‘Offering of Difficult Monk Robe’ in the district. During this festival new robes are donated to the monks.
The festival was jointly inaugurated by the chief of Chakma circle Barrister Raja Debashish Roy and queen Rani Yean Yean. On this day, hundreds of female devotees come along with their spinning wheel and raw cotton from which they weave ‘chibor’, a special dress for viksus. It is believed that the first Kathin Chibor Dan utsab was organised in 1973. But it has become popular after the death of Rajban Biher’s chief and familiar Buddist philosopher Sadhanananda Mohatshero, popularly known as Banabangtee.
The Rajban Bihar Chief and Acting Managing Director Praghya Lonker Mohathero and Upashika Parishad President Former Chairman of Rangamati Local Government Parishad Goutom Dewan and its Secretary Amia Kisha were present, among others.
