Weeklong ‘Income Tax Fair-2017’ beings in the capital and other areas of the country  today to help the taxpayers filing returns and completing other related tasks, reports BSS.

Organised by the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the fair will be inaugurated by State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan at NBR building at Agargaon in the capital.

The fair will also be held at all divisional cities, districts and 102 upazilas. The fair at the district level will be of four days while the duration at the upazila level will be of one or two days, said an NBR

official.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages yesterday of the week-long income tax fair.

In his message, President Hamid said the government has been organising income tax fair every year since 2010 to encourage the people to pay tax and simplify the process of income tax payment.

“NBR adds a new dimension not only to the tax culture but also the national culture through organising the income tax fair,” he added.

The President urged all concerned to come forward spontaneously to give income tax for expediting the activities of the country’s socioeconomic development.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government introduced the income tax fair in 2010 aiming to make easy the process of paying income tax and create awareness among the people on income tax.

“Taxpayers are getting benefits through the income tax fair which is increasing the revenue collection,” she added.

As well as holding the income tax fair, the Prime Minister said, NBR has already been able to create awareness on income tax by taking different innovative programmes, including income tax day, income tax week, income tax camp, revenue halkhata, union digital centre, revenue dialogue, tax education forum, social media dialogue, Facebook page and feedback mail.

She hoped that NBR will continue to play a vital role to mobilise revenue for development through implementing the 6P (Patriotism, Political Guidance, People, Partnership, Planning,  and Performance) by showing zero tolerance to corruption, harassment, misconduct and indiscipline.

The income tax fair will be held across the country and the taxpayers will be able to file tax returns online from the fair, said a NBR official.

He said a one-day mobile tax fair will be held in 71 upazilas this year.
