The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will deliver its verdict today (Wednesday) on the appeals filed by the government and the accused in the murder of Saudi Arabian embassy official Khalaf Al-Ali. A four-member bench of Appellate Division led by acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah yesterday fixed the date after concluding re-hearing. On August 20, the Supreme Court fixed October 10 to deliver its verdict on appeals against the High Court judgement in the case. But, the apex court deferred the date of delivering its verdict on the case for holding further hearing on the appeals. After concluding hearing, the apex court yesterday fixed the date to deliver its order. Khalaf Al Ali, 45, was shot on March 5 midnight in 2012, near his Gulshan residence in the capital. Later, he was admitted to United Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on March 6. Two days after the murder, a case was filed with Gulshan Police Station. Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal on December 30, 2012, sentenced five to death in the case.
