Family alleges police negligence

Abdus Satter, father of Aziza Begum-- a 12-year-old class-V student of Narsingi, yesterday alleged of police negligence in arresting the accused in a case he field over the death of her daughter. He claimed the police were being slack in arresting the prime accused-- Beauty Begum and her cousin and alleged lover Rubel.

However, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the Shibpur police station told this correspondent that they have already arrested one of the accused and the person has already been remanded. The court of Narsingdi judicial magistrate placed accused Tarmuja Begum in a two-day- remand for integration in the case.

The OC also said that the police were trying their best to nab the accused. Tarmuja Begum has given a statement to police under section 161 where she said Beauty was having an illicit affair with Rubel after her husband went to Malaysia four months ago, said the OC. Beauty and Rubel planned to murder Aziza as she caught the duo in an ‘objectionable situation’ a few days ago, according to the statement.

As per plan, Beauty and Rubel ‘accused Aziza of stealing a mobile phone and set her on fire on October 27’.

Aziza succumbed to burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital the following day.
