Two killed in road accident

Two motorcyclists were killed in a road accident in Biral upazila of Dinajpur district on Sunday night.
The victims are Rezaul Islam, 30, of Nizampur village of Biral upazila and Mosaddeq Hossain, 29, of Bonhara village in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur.
Witnesses said the two motorcyclists were going to Phulbarihat in Biral upazila. When they arrived at Dhukurjhari on Dhukurjhari-Maherpur road in Biral upazila it collided with a rice-laden tractor at around 10:30 pm Sunday night. Both died on the spot.
PBS gives 19,651 power lines
JOYPURHAT: Joypurhat Polli Bidyut Samity (JPBS) expanded about 19,651 power connection line in five upazilas of the district last financial year (2014-15), reports BSS.
JPBS office sources said of the total 18,967 household lines, 319 commercial lines, 50 industrial lines and 195 charitable organisation lines were connected in the areas.
The whole district would be brought under the power network by 2017, JPBS office said.
General Manager of JPBS Engineer Abdul Kuddus said 771 villages out of 920 in the district have already been brought under the power network connection.
Two children drown in pond
STAFF correspondent, Sirajganj
Two children drowned in the pond at Mirpur area in Sirajganj town yesterday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Shahin Alam, 4, and his sister Khadiza Khatun, 3, children of rickshaw puller Abdul Mazid.
Victim’s family sources said they fell into the pond while playing on the bank of the pond at around 3:45pm. Locals rescued them at 4pm and took to Sirajganj General Hospital, where the on duty doctor declared them dead.
Man to die for killing wife
Netrokona: A court here on Monday convicted a man
and sentenced him to death for killing his wife in 2005, reports UNB.
The convict was identified as Bashor Ali, 55, of Gobindapur village in Kalmakanda upazila of the district.
According to the prosecution, Bashor Ali and his wife Halima Khatun locked in an altercation over family feud on November 2, 2005. At one stage, Bashor hit Halima with an axe, leave her dead on the spot.
On the day, Moti Mia, son of the deceased filed a case with Kalmakanda police station against his father.
Police submitted charge sheet against Bashor on 31 December, 2005.
After examining 11 witnesses and all the
records, Additional Sessions Judge Abdul Hamid handed down the verdict.
