Nine killed, 10 hurt in Narsingdi accidents

At least nine persons died and 10 injured in two road accidents in Narsingdi district yesterday morning. One accident took place at Kandail in Narsingdi Sadar upazilla and the other at Karar Char area in Shibpur upazilla on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. The first accident took place around 6.30 am. At least six persons were killed and six  injured when a microbus had a head-on collision with a bus at Kandail.

The OC of Madhabdi thana, Md Ilias Mia, said the passenger bus was on the wrong side of the road. The victims were identified as Babul Hossain, 35, Rezaul Karim, 36, Zobayer Ahmed, 34, Iqbal Ahmed, 38, Abul Khayer Bashar, 38, of Biyanibazar in Sylhet district and microbus driver Babul Mia, 37. Witnesses and medical sources said that the Sylhet-bound microbus from Dhaka rammed head on into the Narayanganj-bound passenger bus from Narsingdi. Four persons died on the spot. Firemen and local people rescued the injured persons and sent them to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where two persons died. Four persons are still in hospital. Madhabdi police also sent the bodies to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

The second accident took place at Kararchar area in Shibpur upazilla around 9.15 am. Three persons were killed and four injured.

The police, medical sources, and witnesses said a Sylhet-bound passenger bus of Diganta Paribahan collided head on with a ‘Leguna’ (small bus) in Karar Char. One person died on the spot and two others died on the way to Narsingdi Zilla Hospital. The four injured persons were admitted to the zilla hospital. The three deceased persons were identified as Mamun Mia of Sayed Nagar village, Sujan of Sayederkhola village, and a schoolteacher who was identified only as 'Armaan'  of Karar Char village in Shibpur upazilla. Locals and police rescued the injured persons and sent them to Narsingdi Zilla Hospital. The police also sent the bodies for autopsy.

The OC of Shibpur police station, Sayeduzzaman, said the passenger bus was trying to overtake another bus and hit the ‘Leguna’. Two separate cases were filed in Madhabdi and Shibpur police stations regarding the accidents.
