Seminar on Nobel Prize on Economics held at JU
A seminar titled ‘Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics – 2017’ was held on Sunday at the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus here. Economics Study Circle, an economic study group of JU Economics department, organised the seminar.
Noted Economist Professor Anu Muhammad presided over the function.
Addressing the programme, Professor Anu Muhammad said, “Media influences the lifestyle of people by advertisement.
As a result, general people are trapped with the chain of interests of different commercial communities’’. Chairman of Economics department Professor Amzad Hossain, Professor Khandakar Md Ashraful Munim, Associate Professor Shorminda Nilorma and Director of Economics Study Circle Associate Professor Ashbarul Islam Chowdhury addressed the function, among others.
CUET admission tests on November 1
The admission test for the first year honours courses of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) under the academic session 2017-18 will be held on November 1.
With CUET Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Alam in the chair, a meeting was held at the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB), Chittagong, said a press release issued on Sunday.
In the meeting, CUET VC sought all-out cooperation from the representatives of all government and non-government agencies to hold the admission test in a peaceful manner, the release added.
CUET Registrar (additional charge) Professor Dr Faruque-Uz-Zaman Chowdhury, Students Welfare Director Professor Dr Mohammed Moshiul Hoque and Chief Engineer of Chittagong Development Corporation (CDA) Md Jashim Uddin Chowdhury were present at the meeting, among others.
Botany Olympiad held at RU
RAJSHAHI: A daylong Botany Olympiad was held at Lecture Theater of Department of Botany in Rajshahi University (RU) on Sunday.
Over 200 students from different colleges under Rajshahi Education Board participated in the event organised by Bangladesh Botanical Society and RU's Department of Botany. RU Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan and Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha addressed the session as the chief and special guests respectively with chairman of the department Prof Nurul Amin in the chair.
VC Prof Abdus Sobhan in his speech said the world was moving forward keeping pace with the advancement of science. The olympiad would help explore latent talents of students and take Bangladesh ahead.
In the closing session, three of the students were given crests of first, second and third positions respectively for their brilliant performance while 10 were given medals.
New committee of PUPROA formed
13 member new executive committee of Private Universities Public Relations Officers Association (PUPROA) for the year 2017-2018 was formed recently, says a press release.
Md. Lutfor Rahman, director (Public Relations) of American International University was elected as president while Monirul Islam Rintu, director (Public Relations) of European University of Bangladesh was elected as the general secretary of the association at the general meeting of the association.
The other members of the executive committee are: Hasan Saimum Wahab- vice -president -1 (Independent University of Bangladesh), Mohammad Imtiaj, Vice-president-2 (Eastern University), Ms. Nasima Khondoker, Vice-president-3, Abu Sadat, Assistant General Secretary-1 (United International University), Md. Anowar Habib Kazal, Assistant General Secretary-2 ( Daffodil International University, Mamun Ul Matin, Treasurer (Fareast International University), Md. Ahsan Habib, Organizing Secretary (American International University), Md Abu Mia Akanda, Publicity & Public Relations Secretary (American International University), Sheikh Mahabubur Rahman, Literature Secretary (Northern University of Bangladesh), Abdul Khaleq, Office Secretary (American International University) and Hasina Sultana Angel, Cultural Secretary (University of Health Science).
Information session held at IUB
An information session on Toastmasters International was held at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on October 24 on the university’s campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka, says a press release.
The session was organised by Career Guidance and Placement (CGP) Office of IUB.
Toastmasters International is a worldwide nonprofit educational organisation that empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.
The session was conducted by Muhammad Habibul Islam, Area Director, District 41 of Toastmasters International. Six advanced members of North South University Toastmasters (NSU Toastmasters) had also participated in a short demonstration.
Economics faculty students staged demo at BAU
MYMENSINGH: Students of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology faculty of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Monday staged demonstration on the campus protesting affiliation of new college under BAU and also demanded to extend job opportunities in govt. and non-government sectors of the country.
The students at around 11am suspending their regular classes locked the faculty entry gate and staged demonstration in front of the university administration building.
The students later postponed their agitation after getting satisfactory assurance from the Students Affairs’ Adviser of BAU Professor Dr SD Chawdhury and the dean of the faculty Professor Dr Md. Abdul Kuddus. From sources, the BAU academic council is going to pass a proposal to launch graduate degree on BSc. in Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at newly formed Agricultural Economics College in Netrokona district. BAU academic council also took a decision to affiliate the college under BAU.
