400 phone lines disconnected
Nearly 400 telephone lines and internet services of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) at different areas under the Zinjira Exchange is got disconnected due to snatching of its underground cable.
The clients of Chunkutia, Nagarbag, Jhaubari, Charkabutar, Amin Para, Subadda, Kadamtali and Nazirabad areas have been out of connection both telephone and internet following the damaged of underground cable for the development works, said a BTCL release yesterday.
BTCL is working for the reinstatement of the disconnected telephone lines and internet connection.
BTCL authority regretted to its valued customers for the unexpected inconvenience, the release added.
‘Drug dealer’ arrested with 5.5kg heroin
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug dealer along with 5.5kg heroin from Bhatopara village in Godagari upazila on Monday.
The arrestee was Shamsul Haq alias Sover, 55, son of Thandu Miah of the village.
Tipped off, a team of RAB-5 in Rajshahi raided on the house of Shamsul and arrested him along with heroin worth about Tk five crore, weighing 5.5 kilograms, one mobile phone set and Tk 49,500 in cash around 7:00 pm, RAB sources said.
Blast at garbage heap in Moghbazar
An explosion took place at a garbage heap on a road in the capital’s Moghbazar area on Sunday morning.
On information, police and a bomb disposal unit went to the spot at Doctor Lane and found explosive substances and a bomb-like object there.
Contacted, officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station Kazi Moinul said local people heard a loud sound and smoke billowing out of the rubbish heap around 9:45am.
Seven people, including the owner of a house adjacent to the explosion spot, were taken to the police station for interrogation about the blast, the OC added.
BSMMU launches 24-hour lab services
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), country's premier Postgraduate Medical Institution, yesterday launched 24-hour laboratory services with a view to providing emergency healthcare services to critical patients.
Vice-chancellor of BSMMU Professor Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan inaugurated the service as the chief guest at Dr Milton Hall of the university located in capital’s Shahbagh area. “We have set up the lab services for 24 hours to meet the emergency needs of critical patients," Khan said while talking to BSS.
“We have expanded the services with our existing resources where a patient, even who will not be admitted to the hospital, can take the lab services whenever he/she requires,” he said.
Book on Maizvandari unveils
Maizvandari Gaushia Haque Committee Bangladesh launched a book titled Adhyatik Parikrama-1 (Spiritual Journey-1) at Maizvandari in Chittagong recently.
Hazrat Sayed Mohammad Hasan Vandari along with Professor Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury, Vice -chancellor of Chittagong University, unwrapped the cover of the book written by Dr Baruk Kumar Acharjee.
“In the 80 pages book contained the information about the spiritual man that will be milestone for the new generation, said Hasan Vandari while Professor Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury said people need special recognition when they work specially.
The author of the book really deserves praise for his excellent presentation and information.”
In the book unveil ceremony journalist Nasir Haider, Maizvandar Mormi Gosthir’s president Md Sirajul Mustafa, Syed Tanjid Hossain, Junto Shill, Humayun Rashid, Faisal, Tipu Barua, and Nilu Das were present among others.
