The brutal killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a major setback in the flourishing of a fruitful cooperation mechanism between Bangladesh and India, High Commissioner to New Delhi Syed Muazzem Ali said yesterday.
However, he said that the return to office by his able daughter Sheikh Hasina in 1996 and then again in 2009 brought back the desired level of trust and confidence which facilitated peaceful resolution of bilateral issues like sharing of waters and Land Boundary Agreement. The High Commissioner was speaking at a gathering of senior defence and civilian officers undergoing training at the National Defence College (NDC) in New Delhi, according to a Foreign Ministry press release.
He said that the existing relationship is built on the framework established by the visionary leadership of Bangabandhu during the state visit in 1974.
