Pvt sector’s involvement ‘important to achieve SDGs’

State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan yesterday said private sector’s involvement and policy reforms are important to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by Bangladesh.

"We need regional connectivity for more economic development. The government is working hard to make ease the doing business here and business policy reform will be made with the consultation of private sector and concerned stakeholders," said Mannan while speaking at a seminar ‘Impact Bangladesh Forum’ organised by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) was held at a hotel in the capital yesterday.    

State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan, FBCCI president Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, CPD fellow Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, Senior Economist and Programme Manager of World Bank Group Dr Masrur Reaz, deputy country director of UNDP Bangladesh Kyoko Yokosuka and executive chairman of Policy Research Institute (PRI) Ahsan H Mansur, among others, spoke at the event.

Mentioning the challenges to achieve SDG, he said, “We achieved 7.24 per cent GDP and we are targeting 7.40 per cent GDP growth, but key challenges ahead for Bangladesh in achieving SDG are access to finance and employment generation, poverty alleviation, energy efficiency”.
