Dhaka Theatre, one of the popular theatre troupes in the country, will stage its much-anticipated play ‘Binodini’ today at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital. Dhaka Theatre’s widely popular monodrama ‘Binodini’ is a biographical play based on the life of legendary Bengali theatre actress Binodini Dasi. Saymon Zakaria, under the guidance of Selim Al Deen, dramatised the production. During the dramatisation, Zakaria used two autobiographies of Binodini Dasi – ‘Aamar Kotha’ and ‘Amar Abhinoy Jibon’.
The play, directed by Nasiruddin Yousuf, depicts Binodini’s rise from an entertainer who society looked down upon to a venerated artiste. Shimul Yousuf plays the role of Binodini Dasi, who made a remarkable contribution to urban Bengali theatre in its formative years.
