Describing the Rohingya crisis as ‘miserable humanitarian disaster’, Indian Defence Minister Srimati Nirmala Sitharaman recently said her country would provide necessary efforts to find out a solution of it, said a press release yesterday. “Rohingya is a miserable humanitarian disaster. India is united with Bangladesh, as indeed is virtually most of the democratic world, in efforts to bring about a solution that’s beneficial to all,” she said.
She said when Muhammad Musa, secretary-general of the BCS Freedom Fighter and Mujibnagar Officers and Employees Association, and Habib-E-Akbar Mahmud, chairman of the new generation of Freedom Fighters, when they called upon her recently at her office in South Block, New Delhi.
Predicting that Bangladesh would become a prosperous country very soon, she said, “All present and future generations of Bangladesh owe the privilege of emancipation that they’re enjoying to the noble freedom fighters and the sacrifices they made. The freedom fighters are among
the nation’s greatest assets and all Bengalees should be proud of them.”
Thanking profusely to the minister for the generous compliments she expressed, Musa said “India has always stood steadfastly beside Bangladesh. The Indian Allied Forces sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 and that’s something no Bengalee will ever forget.”
