The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday upheld the High Court order that granted bail to BNP leaders Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Asifa Ashrafi Papiya in separate violence cases. A three-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, passed the order after disposing separate appeal petitions filed by the government against the HC order granting interim bail to Rizvi and Papiya for ‘street violence’. However, the apex court, stayed the interim bail granted to Rizvi by the HC in two cases, Rizvi’s lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon told reporters. The apex court also upheld the HC order that granted bail to Papiya in three separate violence cases. Earlier on August 6, the Appellate Division upheld the High Court (HC) order that granted six months’ interim bail to BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed in five cases.
