Five ‘robbers’ held in B’baria
Brahmanbaria: Police arrested five suspected robbers while fleeing after committing robbery at Noapara village in Kasba municipality area early yesterday, reports UNB.
Local people said a gang of robbers swooped on the house of Rabiullah Mia and kept the house inmates hostage after tying up their hands and legs in the dead of night.
Sensing the presence of the robbers, local people besieged the house and managed to catch five robbers while the others managed to flee.Later, they were handed over to police, said Mohiuddin, officer-in-charge of Kasba Police Station.
Man killed ‘by elder brother’
Gaibandha: A man was stabbed to death allegedly by his younger brother at Monoharpur village in Palshbari upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Saidur Rahman, 45, of the village. Quoting locals, police said there had been altercation between Saidur and his brother Chan Mia as a goat of Chan Mia ate up the paddy at Saidur’s field around 8 am.
At one stage, Chan Mia hit Saidur with a sharp weapon on his chest, leaving him dead on the spot, said Mashruqur Rahman Khaleque, superintendent of Gaibandha Police.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to local hospital morgue for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Chan Mia went into hiding.
3 ‘snatchers’ held in Faridpur

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive on Thursday detained three alleged snatchers from Faridpur Medical College Hospital premises.
The snatchers are Liton Biswas, 26, of Sattojitpur in Magura district, Zakir Hossain, 24, of Harukandi in Faridpur sadar and Hanif Khan, 23, of Madaripur district.
According to RAB sources, RAB officials led by Camp Commander and Additional Police Super Md Raisuddin conducted the drive from morning to noon. The criminals have been snatching money, gold ornaments and mobile phone sets from the patients for long, sources added.
Later, the snatchers were handed over to police. A case was filed against them with Kotwali police station in this connection.
5 idols vandalised in Netrakona
Netrakona: Miscreants damaged five idols of Hindu gods and goddesses at Sarbojonin Kali Temple at Baishdhar East Para in Sadar upazila early Thursday, reports UNB.
Chandan Sarker, a maintenance committee member of the temple, said the miscreants swooped on the temple at the dead of night and vandalised its five idols.
On information, police visited the spot.
Valuables looted from 2 vehicles
Chuadanga: Robbers looted valuables from the passengers of two vehicles after placing logs on Darshana-Akandabaria road at Akandabaria in Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.Witnesses said a gang of robbers put barricades on the road and looted valuables from a truck around 2 am.
Later, the same gang intercepted a microbus and looted gold rings and Tk 50,000 from its passengers.
The robbers also stabbed two people, including the microbus driver, as they tried to resist them.
On information, police visited the spot.
Road crash kills 2 in Cox’s Bazar
Cox’s Bazar: Two people were killed and eight others injured when a truck hit a human hauler on Chittagong-Teknaf Highway near Rabeta Hospital in Ramu upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
One of the deceased was identified as Mahmududl Haq, 32.Highway police said the accident took place around 8:30 am when a goods-laden truck hit the human hauler from behind, leaving its two passengers dead on the spot and eight others injured. The injured were taken to Sadar Hospital.
