South Africa took 1-0 lead against Bangladesh after winning the first the first Twenty20 international by 20 runs at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein of South Africa early today, reports AFP. However, the first time on tour that Bangladesh were able to put up a proper fight against the Protean onslaught.
Earlier, South Africa registered 195/4 in 20 overs after captain JP Duminy decided to bat first. The home side rode on Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers’ aggressive knocks to resist after losing an early wicket while an unbeaten stand of 62 runs between David Miller and Farhaan Behardien anchored them to the total.
South Africa seemed headed for a huge total while De Kock and De Villiers were sharing a second wicket partnership of 79 off 51 balls but
Bangladesh fought back in the middle overs. Rubel Hossain bowled an outstanding 15th over in which he conceded only three runs and took the wicket of De Kock.
Off-spinner Mehedi Hasan took the first two wickets and conceded a respectable 31 runs in his four overs. David Miller and Farhaan Behardien regained the initiative for South Africa by adding an unbeaten 62 runs in the last five overs. Then, Dane Paterson, Andile Phehlukwayo, Beuran Hendricks and debutant Robbie Frylinck picked up two wickets each to keep Bangladesh down to 175 for 9 in 20 overs.
