Indian citizen held with 59 tola gold in Satkhira

Satkhira: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an Indian citizen with 59 tola gold (approximately 688 grams) at Komorpur border area of Debhata Upazila on Wednesday night, reports UNB.

The arrestee was identified as Shariful Dhali, son of late Karim Dhali, hailing from Uttar Chabbish Pargana in West Bengal.

On being tipped off, BGB members arrested the Indian citizen from the border area and recovered the gold from his possession when he was smuggling these to India, said Subeder Aktar of Komorpur BOP (border outpost).

3 youths held along border   

Kurigram: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh arrested three young men from Khalisha Kotal bordering area in Phulbari upazila early Wednesday while entering into the country without valid documents, reports UNB.

The arrestees were identified as Al Amin, 26, son of Moti Mia, Bablu Mia, 23, son of Shahab Uddin and Arman Ali, 25, son of Abdul Kader of Sadar upazila in Kishoreganj district.

Phulbari Balarhat BoP of Lalmonirhat BGB-15 Battalion, Nayek Subedar Abu Taher, said a patrol team of BGB men arrested the three young men while intruding into the country without any valid documents near pillar No 934/11.

They were handed over to Phulbari Police Station. A case was filed.

‘Hundi trader’ arrested

Members of Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) arrested a suspected hundi trader along with Tk 65.5 lakh from Shadipur Doctor Bari area of Benapole Port Thana on Wednesday.

On information, BGB members conducted a drive on Wednesday around 7.15pm, led by Nayek Ashraf Ali in Shahidpur Doctor Bari area and arrested Mostar Ali, 35 with Tk 65.5 lakh, said 49 Battalion of BGB Jessore Camp Lt Col Ariful Haque. Later, BGB handed him over him to Benapole Port Police Station said Ariful Haque adding that a case was filed in this connection.

BCL leader expelled on rape charge

Sirajganj: The Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling party, on Wednesday expelled a leader of its district unit for violating party discipline, reports UNB.

Riad Hossain, 25, vice-resident of district BCL and son of Rakib Uddin of Belkuchi upazila, was expelled after he was sued in a rape case.

The central committee of BCL issued a press statement signed by its president Saifur Rahman Sohag and general secretary SM Jakir Hossain in this regard.

Riad was expelled for violating party discipline, said BCL president of the district Jakirul Islam Limon.

Riad allegedly raped a schoolgirl and beat her up.

Victim’s uncle filed a case against him and his five other associates in this connection.

Man stabbed dead in Narail   

Narail: A man was stabbed to death allegedly by his rivals over previous enmity at Kalabaria village in Naragati upazila yesterday, reports UNB.

Quoting local people, police said Hasmat Talukdar and Tariqul Sheikh, son of Israfil Sheikh of Kalabaria village had long been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area. As a sequel to the enmity, an altercation ensued among the supporters of both groups.

At one stage, both groups attacked each other, leaving Tariqul dead on the spot. Meanwhile, police have arrested three people from the spot, said Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Naragati Police Station.

Businessman fined Tk 1 lakh

Sirajganj: A mobile court here on Wednesday fined Tk one lakh to a sand businessman for piling up sand on the both sides of Dhaka-Bogra highway at Nalka Bridge in Raiganj upazila, reports UNB.

A mobile court led by Raiganj UNO and Executive Magistrate Iqbal Akter conducted a drive in the area and fined TK one lakh to Emdadul of Panchlia village for pilling up sand on the both sides of the highway, causing sufferings to the commuters.

Besides, the court also seized 7.27 lakh cubic feet of sand and handed over the seized sand in custody of the Nalka UP Chairman Abdul Jabbar.

Man killed over land dispute

Faridpur: A man was killed and eight others were injured in a clash over cutting paddy in Gurdia area of Boalmari upazila on Wednesday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified Shamsul Alam, agriculture affairs secretary of Boalmari Upazila unit BNP.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Boalmari Police Station, said that there had been longstanding dispute between Khalil Mollah and his cousin Illias Mollah over a piece of land.

The supporters of Illias harvested paddy from the land of Khalil’s brother Quddus that triggered a clash between the two groups, leaving nine people including Shamsul, a follower of Illias group, injured.

Later, injured Shamsul was rushed to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injures, said the OC.

Road crash kills one in Faridpur

A man was killed and another injured in a road accident on Dhaka–Khulna highway at Mesordia in Modhukhali upazila of Faridpur district on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, 60, son of late Md Wazed, of Solabaria village in Balia Kandi upazila of Rajbari district.

According to sources, the accident occurred after a head-on collision between a motorbike and a human hauler on the highway around 11am leaving two seriously injured.

Later, Salam died on the way to a hospital in Dhaka while injured Babur Ali, 40, was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
