Field schools turn boon to Netrakona farmers

NETRAKONA: Farmers Field Schools (FFS), set up in different villages under all ten upazilas of the district, have been turning boon to the local farmers, reports BSS.
The government and DANIDA set up those schools for teaching the farmers on how to increase production of food grains, vegetables and other crops at their respective villages by using latest technologies. District Agriculture Extension Department (DAED) officials said a total of 118 FFS has been established in the district under the Integrated Farm Management Component (IFMC) program of the government and DANIDA, a foreign donor agency, in the last one year.
A total of 5900 farmers of ten upazilas in the district have been imparting in the different trainings on toxic free crops and vegetables cultivation, homestead gardening, pisciculture, cattle farming and poultry rearing, building up farmers organizations, socio-cultural activities and marketing of agricultural products and crops diversification. Apart from this, each of the trainee farmers was provided with taka 1500 as financial assistance for making them enable to collect different agri-inputs, the officials added.
Talking to BSS, over a dozen of trainee farmers said they were learning about many modern cultivation methods from this schools to produce toxic free crops and vegetables, reducing the production costs.
