Stress on creating health consciousness among school-children

RAJSHAHI: As school-going children are presumed to easily fall prey to worm-infection due to lack of their health hygiene, educating them with leading healthy lifestyle and health consciousness could help check many communicable diseases, reports BSS.

This view was expressed at an advocacy meeting by a host of speakers who urged all concerned to maintain healthy lifestyle making them prone to proper knowledge, attitude and practice on lifestyle to prevent both communicable and non-communicable diseases and malnutrition.

Creating health awareness among the school-going children and also the people in general, the speakers, said should be the major toll in preventing many communicable diseases.

Joining the function Mayor of Rajshahi Mosaddique Hossain Bulbul said schoolboys and girls ought to have lessons on awareness and health hygiene and using sanitary latrine together with hand-washing before taking every meal.

Bulbul urged all officials and others concerned to make the forthcoming ‘worm control week- 2017’ a total success for building a worm-free society.

The advocacy meeting was held at the city bhaban conference hall here ahead of the week scheduled to be observed from November 4 to 9 and from November 12 to 16.Assistant Director of the Office of Divisional Director of Health Dr Ismat Ara, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Enamul Haque, Associate Professor of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Dr Poly Dutta, Divisional Coordinator of world Health Organization Dr Kamruzzaman and Chief Health Officer of RCC Dr AFM Anzuman Ara Begum shared their opinions on the issue.

Bulbul said due attention should be given to create mass awareness through using both print and electronic media and other state-level machinery.

The city corporation has set a target to feed de-worming tablet to all children aged between 5 years and 12 in the first phase while all other children aged between 12 and 16 in the second phase.
