Thangamara Mahila Sabuj Shangha (TMSS) executive director  Prof. Dr Hosne Ara Begum is among the 16 people accused of cheating in a case filed over the ownership of the Pundra University of Science and Technology.

Md Golam Rabbani, vice-chairman of the board of trusties of the university, has filed the case at the Bogra additional chief judicial magistrate’s court (Case No. 1665C/2017 Sadar).

The other accused in the case are Shafi Parvej, 36, Kawsarul Islam, 35, Nazrul Islam, 35, Ahammed Sharif, 37, Abdul Mannan Sarker, Sahadul Alam, 32, MH Sajahan Taru, 62, Abu Basir Talukdar, 35, Kaysar Parvej Kallal, 35, Khalilur Rahman, 38, Abdul Maleque, 35, Azahar Ali, 34, Mahtab Hossain Chowdhury, 35, Rezaul Karim, 36, and Abdul Alim, 35.

The additional chief judicial magistrate of Bogra, Shyam Sundar Roy, accepted the complaint and directed the zila parishad chairman to file an investigation report.

Golam Rabbani alleged that Hosne Ara Begum and other defendants have no affiliation with the Pundra University of Science and Technology. After the approval of the university, the government suspended its approval for unspecified reasons in 2006.

At that time, Hosne Ara Begum had tried to get approval for the establishment of a private university, namely the TMMS University of Bangladesh. Ever since then, she has been trying to seize the ownership of the Pundra University of Science and Technology, Golam Rabbani added.

He also alleged all the accused, led by Hosne Ara Begum, had started enrolling students after putting up an illegal admission notice that amounted to fraud.

The TMSS executive director also filed 16 cases against Golam Rabbani in different courts with the help of her employees after he protested against the admission. In addition, Golam Rabbabi was detained in jail for 16 days even after getting bail. Apparently, he was forced to sign a pledge to settle the issue of the ownership of the Pundra University of Science and Technology.
