Paceman Mustafizur Rahman yet another fell into a trap of long injury as soon as coming back to his regular business from a protracted-injury layoff following the surgical operation on his left shoulder.
For this he will miss to play a string of initial games of the upcoming Twenty20 Tournament of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
This time Mustafiz sustained injury on his left ankle when they were playing football as a part of their practice for the one-day series against the hosts South Africa. The pacer returned home from South Africa after being ruled out of the T20 series last week.
He started his rehabilitation programme under the guideline of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) physicians. Though he begins his rehab he needed three weeks to return to his business.
BCB chief physician Dr Debashis Chowdury told media such about Bangladesh pace spearhead Mustafizur Rahman at his BCB office of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) yesterday.
“We’ve started giving him physiotherapy since Wednesday. His progress has really been better after the very first day therapy. Swelling has mostly been mitigated,” said Debashis Chowdhury.
“Even though his progress is going better clinically, his scan report tells that it is grade-2 injury. So, we have to adopt cautiousness to handle it. He will bear less weight thing on his body in the next two days. Along with that, physiotherapy will also be going on,” Dr Chowdhury told media.
“If he goes to play without complete injury free, he might then be fallen into injury. For this we suggested him to not play the initial some more games,” he added.
The curtain of the T20 blockbuster tournament will be raised at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet on November 4. Mustafizur’s Rajshahi Kings will get down in the field in the opening day’s second match against Rangpur Riders. But Kings will not get the service of the pacer at least some matches at the initial stage.
After the conclusion of the BPL, Bangladesh will play a bilateral full series against Sri Lanka. So, the BCB physicians will not allow Mustafiz to play in BPL until he healed completely from his injury.
Dr Debashis said that they will work with him for the next two weeks and then they will continue his rehab programme. If they could continue in this vein, he might since be healed in the middle of the BPL.
Therefore, they drop the matter of his playing in BPL on his willingness. But they did not give their opinion for his game not being recuperated completely.
“Today is the thirteen day of his injury. He will also take rest for the next two more weeks. In that case, one month is very good time for the recuperation from his injury,” the physician viewed.
“But we’ve to keep in mind that he will be stayed in this one month out of practice. For this he of course has to give some more days for rehabilitation. But it will bank on Mustafizur fully,” he added.
He warns that the recurrence of his injury is more inevitable if he comes not to fully complete his rehabilitation.
“Lateral ankle strain is very bad injury for a fast bowler. If he comes back in his usual job before not being healed completely, in that case, a possibility of his injury is more evident in future. So, we’ll seek that he returns to cricket after being completely recuperated. For this if he misses some matches of the BPL, the management will accept this,” he thought.
