An alleged yaba trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Chittagong early yesterday (Monday). The deceased was identified as Jahidul Islam alias Alo, 35, a resident of Akbarshah area of the city. “Standing on a pick-up van at Akbarshah area, Alo was talking with his two associates around 2:45am. At that time, a patrol team of RAB-7 was crossing the area. Seeing the team, Alo became frightened and, along with his associates, opened fire at the law enforcers. A gunfight triggered when the RAB retaliated,” said Sohel Mahmud, assistant director of RAB-7. Alo was detained with critical bullet injuries but his cohorts fled. About 20,000 yaba tablets and a pistol were seized from the spot.
