Moudud questions AL’s stance on CJ’s rejoining

UNB

BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed yesterday questioned the government's stance on the Chief Justice's rejoining, saying the Attorney General and Bangladesh High Commissioner in New Delhi gave contradictory remarks over the issue, reports UNB. "The Attorney General and Awami League leaders are saying the Chief Justice won't be able to rejoin his office anymore while the Bangladesh High Commissioner in New Delhi had said the Chief Justice can return anytime and rejoin his office," he said.

Speaking at a discussion, he further aid, "We want to know whose statement is correct. We don't know whether the Awami League leaders and the Attorney General are telling the truth or the High Commissioner is speaking the truth. We also don't know what the government actually wants."

Nagorik Odhikar Andolan Forum arranged the discussion at the Jatiya Press Club marking the 5th death anniversary of Democratic League founding president Oli Ahad and third death anniversary of political analyst Dr Pias Karim.

Amid a row over the 16th amendment verdict, Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha left here for Australia on October 14 on leave.

Referring to the formation of an 11-member committee, led by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, for filing a review petition against the Supreme Court's 16th amendment verdict, Moudud also questioned the way the government has 'insulted and harassed' the Chief Justice when it is going to file the review petition.
