DU sets 8 pm deadline for TSC activities

Dhaka University (DU) has ordered all social and cultural organizations to wind up their official activities at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) by 8 pm.
A notice signed by TSC director Mohiuddin Moyna has been sent to all organizations. However, it has been added that if absolutely necessary, they can do their official work until 11 pm. The notice states that the decision has been taken to maintain security.
Moyna said, We have given the order because the students who are part of these organizations should not spend too much time on art and culture. TSC is a sensitive place. Sometimes, street vendors enter the area after 8 pm. This may hamper security.
DU vice-chancellor Prof. Akhtaruzzaman said, We got information that some male and female students were staying in a room of the TSC. After that, I gave an order to the TSC director to enforce discipline in the TSC. Hence, the notice has been given.
However, the leaders of the organizations concerned said that the decision was not very friendly. President of the DU Film Society S M Arif said, This is like a binding rule. We usually start our organizational activities after classes, but now these will be hampered.
Paris Talukder, president of the DU Photographic Society, said, This is bad news for us. If there was any problem, they could have alerted us. But this kind of notice was unexpected.
