Wall collapse kills child, woman in Gazipur

A minor boy and a woman were killed in separate wall collapse incidents at Pubail and Kainjanul area of Gazipur on Saturday.

The victims were identified as Zahid, 2, son of Sumon Miah of Patalchor village under Bazitpur upazila in Kishorganj and Selina Akter, 23, wife of Erajul Haque of Raotnagar Uttargaon village in Thakurgaon.

Woman councilor of Ward No 40 of Gazipur City Corporation Hosne Ara Siddiquee Juli said, Zahid came to his grand father’s house at Pubail with his mother a few days ago. He along with his mother and an aunt went to sleep in a tin shed room on Friday night. At around 3 am on Saturday, a portion of mud wall of a house collapsed on the room, leaving Zahid dead on the spot and injured his mother Rina Akter and aunt Runa Akter.

On the other hand, Selina Akter, a worker of a local garment factory was killed while a wall of a mud room collapsed on her early on Saturday while she was sleeping in the room in Kainjanul area of the city. Shah Alam, a member of Bhawal Mirzapur Union Parishad said, Selina lived in a rental room of a house at the area and worked in a local garment factory. On Friday night she went to her mud constructed rental room for sleeping.  Early on Saturday, a portion of wall of the room collapsed on her, leaving Selina dead on the spot.
