Abahani Limited became the champions in the Women’s Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League for the first time yesterday after topping the point table with highest 18 points.
On the last round of the league, the match between Abahani and Mohammedan and Rupali Bank and Khelgahar were washed out due to inclement weather, paving the way for the Rupali Bank to emerge as the runners-up.
Abahani earlier ensured that they would lift the title regardless of the result of their match against Mohammedan. Abahani mainly confirmed the title by beating defending champions Rupali Bank on last Thursday. The Dhanmondi outfit amassed total 18 points while Rupali Bank’s point was 15.
Mohammedan became champions highest six times in the nine times of the league. Ansar & VDP, Rupali Bank and Abahani became champions for only time. Mohammedan had even the record of sealing the title for the fifth straight time.
