4 burnt in cylinder blast
Four people suffered burn injuries as a gas cylinder exploded at a Dockyard in central Kheyaghat area of Bandar upazila in Narayanganj on Friday morning.
The gas cylinder of ‘Khandaker Dockyard’ went off suddenly around 8:30 am while a group of workers were working there, said Bachchu Miah, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, quoting the injured.
One held with yaba, arms
Police arrested an alleged drug trader and recovered 2,000 contraband yaba pills, one sub-machine carbine (SMC), one pistol, eight magazines and 60 round of bullets from Motijheel and Joarshahara areas in the capital on Thursday evening.
The arrestee was identified as Md Tofazzal Haque, 45
Based on the information, a special team (Illegal narcotics recovery and prevention team) of DB conducted a drive in front of the Rahmania International Complex.
Sensing presence of the detectives, one of drug traders fled the scene but Tofazzal was caught from the spot, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Masudur Rahman.
Searching his body, they recovered 600 pieces Yaba tablets.
Based on Tofazzel’s information, the DB team raided the residence of Rabiul and recovered 14,00 pieces Yaba pills, one SMC, one pistol, eight magazines and 60 rounds of bullets.
Youth found dead in Ctg
A young man was found dead in Sona Pahar area in Mirsarai upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Faruq, 34, son of Sujahul Haque, a resident of Mehedi Nagar village in Baroiyarhat municipality and employee of a cloth store.
Jahidul Kabir, officer-in-charge of Jorarganj Police Station, said locals spotted the body near a petrol pump in the morning and informed police.
Later, police recovered the body.
The body bore several injury marks, added the OC.
Clothes worth Tk 1cr seized
Highway police arrested two alleged smugglers along with Indian sarees and other garments, worth about Tk 1 crore, from a microbus on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Sonargaon upazila on Thursday.
The arrestees were identified as Shakib, 19, and Rabiul, 22, of Comilla.
On information, a team of police searched different vehicles on the highway and seized the smuggled Indian sarees and three-pieces from a microbus and arrested the duo, said Kanchpur Highway police station OC Qaiyum Ali.
Six gamblers jailed in Sylhet
A mobile court in Sylhet has sentenced six gamblers to 15 days’ imprisonment each in Biswanath upazila of the district.
The convicts are Rekam Uddin, 35, and Faraj Ali, 30, of Makhargaon village; Alamgi Hossain, 20, and Altaf Hossain, 35, of Dhalipara village; Jamshed Ali, 30, of Jamsherpur village and Kala Mia, 35, of Aamtail Purbapara village in the upazila.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area on Thursday and arrested the six while they were gambling, said Shamsuddoha, officer-in-charge of Biswanath Police Station.
The arrestees were later produced before the court, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Amitav Porag Talukder, which punished them after examining witnesses, the OC added.
Man killed in road accident
A man was killed in a road accident at Tikatuli in the capital on Thursday night.
Witness Mostafizur Rahman Shuvo said a Jurain-bound bus of ‘Rangdhanu Paribahan’ knocked down a pedestrian in front of Rajdhani Super Market at Tikatuli around 8:45 pm, leaving him injured.
Shuvo later took the man to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead around 9:15 pm, said sub-inspector Bacchu Miah of DMCH Police Camp.
