Man jailed for 30 years for killing girl

Sherpur: A court here on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to 30 years’ imprisonment for killing a minor girl in 2009, reports UNB.

Apart from sentencing Zakir Hossain, 33, son of Khajor Uddin of Malakocha village in Sribardi upazila to the long 30 years, the court also jailed Zakir’s two brothers—Saklain and Farid Uddin -for four months and three months respectively in the case.

According to the prosecution, Zakir along with his brothers swooped on the house of his neighbour Israfil following a dispute over farming bottle gourd on a land on September 24, 2009.

At one stage, Zakir attempted to hit Israfil with a bamboo stick but Israfil’s wife with her one-year-old daughter Nabila on her lap came forward to save Israfil, leaving Nabila killed on the spot.

A case was then filed with Sribardi Police Station. Police submitted a chargesheet against three people on February 17, 2009.
