The well-marked low pressure in the west-central Bay of Bengal has every possibility of drifting away further towards the south-eastern Indian coast. Without turning into a storm, it is likely to bring heavy showers there as well as in Bangladesh, mostly in the south, from Friday, meteorologists said.
When Monday's low intensified into a well-marked low on Tuesday, weathermen were watching its development closely at the storm warning centre of the Dhaka Met Office, fearful that it could be the first step towards a cyclone as its season has begun.
After the well-marked low usually the next step is a depression, intensifying into a deep depression, which develops further into a cyclone.
But Arif Hossain of the Met Office said yesterday (Wednesday) that the well-marked low would move further north-westward inland over the Indian states of West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and bring plenty of rain there as well as in Bangladesh from Friday.
So, there are possibilities of rain on Friday and Saturday even in the capital, the meteorologist added.
