More local companies are getting ready to set up assembling plants for mobile phone handset with a view to utilising the potential of domestic market, reports BSS.
Following the way of Walton, another two local brands “WE” and “Symphony” are working for mobile handset assembling plants while South Korean giant Samsang has also showed interest to manufacture handset locally.
Talking to the news agency, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Smart Solutions Division of Aamra Holdings Limited A M Ehsan-Ul Haque said they are marketing mobile handset with the brand name “WE”.
“But, now we are setting up assembling plant to produce smartphone with monthly capacity of 3.20 lakh units,” he added.
Replying to a query, Ehsan said: “With the device, we are also offering free WiFi, application and cloud services.”
Apart from the domestic market, he said, at this moment they are marketing their device and service in Qatar. “In future we are planning to expand market North Africa and Southeast and central Asia.”
Ehsan said they have planned to run trial production by the end of December.
On the other hand, another local handset brand Symphony is working to go for trial production by the end of January next year upon getting the nod of telecom regulator.
Talking to the news agency, marketing director of the brand Ashraful Huq said initially they are setting up assembling plant in the outskirt of capital city, Ashulia with annual capacity of 60-70 lakh units.
“At this moment, we will manufacture basic, feature and low-end smartphone due to shortage of skilled manpower, but in future we would move for high-end smartphone,” he added.
Ashraful said the initiative would also help them develop skilled manpower as they would hire experts to run operation.
On October 10 this year, Walton inaugurated the country’s first mobile handset assembly plant in Gazipur with the view to capturing a major share of the domestic market in the near future.
The local company has started off with assembling smartphones on a trial basis; customers are expected get their hands on the first batch of the locally assembled handsets by the end of the year.
