Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) fifth edition is drawing nearer as only 16 more days left for the Twenty20 blockbuster tournament.
It is anticipating that this year BPL will be fighting and competitive more than its previous occasions for many more reasons. First of it, may be, a record number of quality overseas players from all the corners except India will play in the cash-rich T20 tournament.
BPL franchisee teams had confirmed the services of 69 foreign players before the players’ draft that made the draft programme lackluster. The franchisees however have purchased only 15 foreign players from the players’ draft.
Some of the franchisee as it heard signed a post-draft deal with some more quality players after the cancellation of the Global Twenty20 League (GTL) in South Africa.
Many thought that the door has been more open for the players to choose BPL franchisee after the stop of the GTL. Meanwhile Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga and Faf du Plessis turned to the BPL.
Rangpur Riders have confirmed the full time service of West Indian stroke-maker Chris Gayle. Along with that, they inked paper with Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga.
Apart from that, some of the quality players will also pen papers with BPL franchisee including Faf du Plesiss, Quinton de Kock. It has been aired that Comilla Victorians brought South African hard-hitter Faf du Plessis. Victorians media manager Nayan of course said that he has no information about the recruitment of this South African player.
“We’ve Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Liton Kumar Das and Shoaib Malik for the top-order batting line-up. Our coach will set them in that vein. So, we have needed no more player or players,” said Nayan.
“Like Dhaka Dynamites, we’ve already finished our foreign recruitment with the players of players’ draft and outside of the draft. But the team management if recruit any player for the top-order, we have to then drop any of the player from the above players,” Nayan told The Independent over phone.
An official of the BPL acknowledged the news of the players, stating that they have heard it like you but they have receipted any letter from the BPL franchise.
He also said that some of the big name players are coming here to play the forthcoming BPL after the cancellation of the Global T20 League in South Africa.
He even said that some of the players, who earlier decided to play some matches in BPL before moving to GTL. After the annulment of the T20 tournament, they will also give full-time service for the BPL franchisee.
Champions Dhaka Dynamites have already formed the most balanced team with famed foreign and local players. World best all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan to lead the team. They have already included a number of foreigners which included Shahid Afridi and Shane Watson.
