2 held with firearm in Tangail

Members of Rapid Action Batallion (RAB) arrested two youths with one foreign pistol and six rounds of bullet from Sadar upazila of Tangail district on Tuesday. The arrestees are identified as Abu Hanif, 28 and Siful Islam, 22.
Company Commander of RAB-12 Bina Rani Das said on information they conducted a raid at Bashakhanapur at about 10:30 am and arrested them with a foreign pistol and six rounds of bullet. A case was filed with Sadar police station in this connection.

Man dies after falling off tree
Our correspondent, Jessore

A man died after falling off a tree at Tengrail village in Sharsha upazila of Jessore district on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, 48, son of late Rupchan Morol of the village.
Deceased’s brother-in-law Abdul Khalil said Salam fell off a tree around 1pm when he was getting down from it hurriedly noticing nest of wasps, a kind of bee, here, leaving him critically injured. Later, locals rushed Salam to Jessore General Hospital where he succumbed to his head injuries around 6:30 pm, said Md Jahidul Islam, intern doctor of the hospital.

Mentally challenged girl ‘raped’
Pirojpur: A mental challenged teenage girl has been allegedly raped by a sexagenarian man at Uttar Shankarpasha village in Sadar upazila, reports UNB.
Victim’s father filed a case against Nasir Munsi, 60, son of Ansar Munsi, and Tamanna Akhtar, daughter of Babul Akon, residents of Shankarpasha village, on Tuesday morning, said Masumur Rahman Biswas, officer-in-charge of the police station. According to the case statement, the victim went to a nearby house to watch television on Monday afternoon.
When she was returning home, Tamanna took her at the room of Nasir Munsi, a neighbour of the victim, where the elderly man raped the teenage girl forcibly.
Hours after the incident, the victim girl informed the matter to her mother.

Man to die for killing wife
Jessore: A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife for dowry in 2007, reports UNB.
The court also fined Rafiqul Islam Dhopodi, son of Shaheed Ali of Dakkhin Nauapara in Abhoynagar upazila, Tk 1 lakh. According to the prosecution, Rafiqul used to torture his wife Nazma Begum for dowry since their marriage in 2005.
On May 12, 2007, Rafiqul beat his wife up and strangled her to death as she refused to bring money and hanged the body of Nazma from the ceiling of his house in a bid to prove it a suicide incident.
Victim’s father filed a case with Abhaynagar Police Station.
After examining the records and witnesses, Judge of the Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Amit Kumar Dey handed down the verdict.

Police train 200 drivers in Magura   
Magura: Magura police have provided free training to some 200 drivers of different types of vehicles with a view to reducing road crashes, reports UNB.
Monibur Rahman, superintendent of Magura Police, inaugurated the two-day training programme at Magura Police Lines auditorium on Monday.
Tarikul Islam, additional superintendent of Magura police, traffic inspectors and senior police officers trained the 200 drivers from different areas of the district.

Awareness meeting on hilsa protection held in Chandpur
An awareness meeting titled ‘Campaign to Protect Mother Hilsa’ was held in Chandpur. Bangladesh Police arranged the meeting recently, says a press release.
Sheikh Mohammad Maruf Hasan (BPM), the DIG of Naval Police was present there as chief guest. He talked with some fishermen there. In order to raise awareness among people about protecting mother hilsa speakers delivered inspirational speeches at the meeting.
Among others, SP Shamsunnahar, SP Subroto Kumar Halder, chairman of district council, district fisheries officer, district chairman were also present there.
