DU ‘Gha’ unit admission test begins Oct 20
The first-year honors admission test of Dhaka University (DU) "Gha-unit" (combined unit for science, business studies and humanities group students) under academic session 2017-2018 will begin on October 20. The one-hour test will be held from 10am to 11am at 86 centers on and outside of the campus, said a DU press release here on Tuesday.
A total of 98,054 applicants will contest against 1,610 seats of three groups Science (1147), Business (410) and Humanities (53).
The applicants are highly prohibited to carry any kind of electronic devices including mobile phone and communicable devices during the admission test.
The seat-plan of the admission tests could be known from the university website- admission.eis.du.ac.bd, the release added.
Energy Summit 2017 held at NSU
The South Asia IAEE-NSU Energy Summit 2017 was held at the North South University campus on Tuesday, says a press release.
It was organised by the International Association of Energy Economics (IAEE) and North South University. The daylong summit included panel discussions on the crucial energy sector issues of the country and shed light on international policies and practices regarding energy provision and access. The summit was divided into four plenary sessions followed by a closing ceremony.
Officials from the government sector, IAEE, World Bank, United Nations, USAID, private sector, eminent academicians and civil society leaders were present.
The president of IAEE Dr Ricardo Raineri Bernain, who is also an ex-minister of Energy in Chile, was one of the organisers of the event.
Cleanliness campaign held at JU
A cleanliness campaign was held at the Jahangirnagar University campus yesterday after ending the entry test. Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL) of the university unit organised the campaign with in order to keep the campus area neat and clean.
About at 11 am, JU Vice-chancellor Professor Farzana Islam inaugurated the cleanliness campaign on the Central Shaheed Minar premises as chief guest.
She thanked the JU BCL leaders and activists and urged to frequently conduct different types of social works on the campus. Pro VC (Academic) Professor Abul Hossain, Pro VC (Administration) Professor Amir Hussain, Treasurer Professor Sheikh Monjurul Huq, Proctor Professor Tapan Kumar Saha and JU Teachers’ Association President Professor Farid Ahmad were present at the inaugural session among others.
IU to enroll first ever foreign students
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: Islamic University (IU) authorities will first ever enroll foreign students in different academic programmes under its current 2017-18 academic session.
A total of 50 students will get the chance to get admission into the university, sources at IU registrar office said on Tuesday evening. IU acting registrar SM Abdul Latif said that the university authorities have decided to admit students from Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Cambodia and Indonesia.
The university has all kinds of facilities for the foreign students, Vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari said, adding that the move to enroll foreign students will play a vital role in achieving the international standard of the university.
Cadet award ceremony of JU BNCC held
SAVAR: Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday awarded some cadets of Bangladesh National Cadet Core (BNCC) as they facilitated the authority at the entry test under academic session 2017-18.
Cadet Harun-Ur-Rushed and cadet Shahnur Rahman Sweet were awarded as ‘Best Cadet’ and ‘Best Commander; at the programme.
Vice-chancellor Professor Farzana Islam inaugurated the award giving ceremony at the senate hall at about 12 pm.
Addressing the programme, the VC said, "Cadets of BNCC JU platoon relentlessly assisted the university authority specially maintaining discipline at the examination halls. It was impossible for us to maintain the large number of admission seekers without their cooperation.”
