Around 675 people different parts of Bangladesh have been provided with artificial limbs at a special camp in the capital, reports UNB.
The Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, (BMVSS), India, better known as 'Jaipur Foot' organised the camp at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), in the capital.
A team of 15 experts from BMVSS have conducted the month long camp in collaboration with the Moyeen Foundation of Bangladesh.
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla visited the limb fitment camp on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, the High Commissioner highlighted the very significant role of BMVSS in providing a new lease of life to amputees in Bangladesh and other parts of the world.
This is the third limb fitment camp being organised by BMVSS in Bangladesh.
Earlier two camps held in Dhaka benefitted 1617 amputees from Bangladesh.
The significance of the BMVSS is that it focuses on the poor and disabled and provides limbs, calipers and other aids totally free of cost without any distinction on any grounds.
To date, 1.6 million people in India and all over the world have benefitted from its philanthropic actions.
Besides Bangladesh, BMVSS has conducted camps in Afghanistan, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Nepal, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan, Sri Lanka, and others.
The impact of the Jaipur Foot camps in post conflict northern Sri Lanka: in Vavuniya (1087 limbs) in 2010 and Jaffna (535) in 2011 has been very significant.
