A Narayanganj court yesterday ordered the state to realise money for the maintenance of a child born as a result of rape from the rapist until the child turns 21, reports UNB. It also sentenced the rapist, Sohel Miah, 24, son of Aman Ullah of Borab Bazar Borobari village of Sonargaon upazila, to life imprisonment and fined him Tk 1 lakh. Special public prosecutor Rakib Uddin Ahmed said the child will remain under the custody of his mother and he will be identified as the son of Sohel and the victim. According to the prosecution, the convict developedan affair with the plaintiff and raped her promising to marry her.
As the girl became pregnant, the convict refused to marry her and instead he tortured her on June 12, 2015 to destroy the embryo.
The victim filed a case with a local court on June 14, 2015.
In the meantime, the girl gave birth to a baby boy who is now 17 months old.
After examining the records and witnesses, Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Amzad Hossain handed down the verdict.
