The BCB election commission published a draft voter list, excluding former president Saber Hossain Chowdhury for the upcoming polls of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Saber’s absence means, the BCB is likely to see another one-sided election like 2013 polls.
In the last election Saber Hossain Chowdhury withdrew his name after declaring to contest in the polls. That paved the way for the Nazmul Hassan Papon-led committee sweep the election uncontested. The similar thing is expected to be happened this time around.
Saber Hossain owned the Baridhara Dazzlers Club from which he was expected to be councilor. But the election commission got the name of Reaz Ahmed from the club as a councilor, said BCB CEO and the member of election commission Nizam Uddin Chowdhury.
“We included the name (Reaz Ahmed) in the voter list that we got from the Baridhara Dazzlers. We didn’t get other name,” he said. A total of 167 councilors name is included in the voter list even though there were 172 councilors. According to the EC, they sent the letters to the absent five councilors but didn’t get any respond and therefore they published the name of 167 councilors in the draft voter list.
“None of them contacted us. We haven’t got any information that they will send their name. But we have the documents of sending them the letters,” Chowhdury said.
The excluded five councilors are from Bandarban DSA, Bagerhat DSA, Kurigram DSA, Bangladesh Biman and Secondary and Higher Secondary School Board, Dhaka. There is no scope to include their names who was excluded, said chief election commissioner Omar Faruk.
After the objection and the hearing of the objection taking place on October17, the final voter list will be published . The candidates will be able to collect their nomination papers on October 20 and the last date for submitting nomination papers will be October 24, the scrutiny of nomination papers and the disclosure of the final candidates list will take place on October 25. The hearing and objection on nomination paper will be held on October28 while the last date for candidate’s intent on withdrawing from the election will have October 29.
The election that will elect 25 directors will be held on October 31. The directors then will elect the BCB president. Amongst the 25 directors, 10 will come from DSA, 12 will be elected from the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, first division, second division and third division, two from NSC and one from CWAB.
