KHULNA: Officer-in-Charge of Khalispur Police Station along with 12 others cops allegedly stabbed a local trader through his eyes with a screwdriver on July 18, as he did not manage to provide them Tk 1,50,000 as extortion, reports UNB.
The victim Md Shahjalal shared the intimidating description of the incident with journalists at the Press Club on Sunday.
He alleged Khalispur police picked him up on July 18 and demanded Tk 1,50,000 from his family to release him.
Later at night Nasim Khan, OC of Khalispur Police Station along with 12 other police men stabbed his both eyes with a screwdriver as Shahjalal’s family members had failed to arrange the money, he said.
“Without proper treatment now my eyes are decomposing rapidly, I demand immediate punishment of the 13 law enforcers who were involved in this heinous crime,” he said.
Shahjalal is now freed in bail in connection to a fake extortion case, which police filed after the incident to oppress him further and threatening his family to remain silent, he alleged.
“I shall never get back my eyes again but I want justice”, he cried. Shahjalal earlier on September 7, filed a case with Khulna Metropolitan Session Court against the cops.
Human Right activist and victim's lawyer Mominul Islam said the OC and their men several time offered money to the victim demanding withdrawal of the case but Shahjalal declined the proposal. Now they are putting muscle-power and threatening the family, he added.
