Evening of folk, modern songs held at Natl Museum

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre organised an evening of folk songs by Swapan Dutta Baul from India and modern songs by Bangladeshi singer Dipankar Mondal at the Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum in the capital on Saturday.
At the programme, Swapan Dutta Baul mesmerised the audience by rendering the songs Hridmajhare Rakhibi Chere Debo Na, Baul Baul Bolcho Sobai, Bhobe Ekjoni Dite Jane Go, Menoka Mathai Delo Ghomta and Golemale Pirit Koiro Na.
On the other, singer Dipankar Mondal performed the songs like Mahishasur Mardini, Dip Chilo Shikha Chilo, Amar Na Jodi Thake Sur, Pousher kachakachi Rod Makha and Rafta Rafta.
The artistes were accompanied by Apurbo Das on tabla, Md Kamrul on flute, Md Nur-A-Alam Shojib on keyboard and Bidyut Roy on octopad during the entire performance.
Swapan Dutta is a registered and approved Baul folk singer of Government of West Bengal, India. He has received commendations and certificates for his versatile talent from the President and Prime Minister of India, Chief Minister of West Bengal and many more. He has released a video album of folk and baul songs. He is an examiner in Bangiya Sangeet Parishad. He completed his B.Com degree and currently working as a music teacher in Kolkata.
On the other hand, born in a musical family Dipankar Mondal was inspired in music from his singer parents, Dwijendra Lal Mondal and Mila Mondal. He has completed five-year academic musical course on Nazrul Sangeet and folk songs from Prantik Shilpi Goshthi, Barisal. He is an enlisted artiste of Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar.
