RAJSHAHI: The enthusiastic farmers are passing busy time with transplanted Aman farming in eight districts under Rajshahi division amid favourable weather and sufficient rainfall, local agriculture officials said, reports BSS. “The current weather remains favourable and helps the farmers’ completing transplantation of T-Aman seedlings on time,” Additional Director-in-Charge of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) here Joynul Abedeen told BSS yesterday. He said the farmers had cultivated aman paddy on around 3.39 lakh hectares of land in Rajshahi, Naogaon, Natore and Chapainawabganj districts this season.
They brought 3.18 lakh hectares of land under high yielding varieties, 29,826 hectares under local varieties and 680 hectares under hybrid varieties of Aman paddy.
Agriculturist Abedeen said most of the farming fields now wore an eye-catching look. In some areas, harvesting of the short-duration varieties especially Brridhan-48 and zinc-enriched Brridhan-62 was started.
Though there is adequate rainwater, the Barind Multipurpose Development Authorities (BMDA) is ready in full to provide supplementary irrigation if required, enabling the farmers to cultivate, local DAE officials said.
In addition, the farmers have kept thousands of their shallow tube wells ready for supplementary irrigation if any drought situation begins, they said.
The farmers cultivated more than 29 high yielding, two hybrid and nine local and indigenous varieties during the Aman season and more or less 15 of those are very much popular among the farmers, said ATM Rafiqul Islam, Deputy Manager (Agriculture) of Barind Multipurpose Development Authorities (BMDA).
