A patient died yesterday morning at around 11.45am in a Bogra city clinic due to “wrong treatment”, alleged family members, although the autopsy report was yet to come. However, the clinic authorities denied the allegation. Following the death, relatives along with locals ransacked the clinic.
Professor Dr Joynul Abedin, 58, son of late Dr Abdur Rahman, was admitted to Maleka Malka Nursing Home on Friday afternoon with mental illness.
A written complaint was submitted to Bogra sadar police station accusing heart specialist Dr Shahidul Haque and mental disease specialist Dr Paritosh Kumar, one of the owners of the clinic, and three other unnamed doctors.
Professor Dr Joynul Abedin died at 11.45am, minutes after he had been taken to the operation theatre, Md Emdad Hossen, officer-in-Charge of Bogra sadar police station said. His relatives found him dead in the operation theatre after doctors and other staff had fled the clinic, said the OC.
Md Abdul Hannan Azad, younger brother of the deceased, said overdose of pain killers might have led to the patient's death. Talking to the reporter over the cellphone, Dr Shahidul Haque claimed, “Professor Joynul Abedin died of a cardiac arrest”. “We tried to save him by artificial respiratory system, but failed,” said Dr Shahidul Haque.
