Derailment snaps rail link on Khulna-Jessore-Benapole route
Benapole: Train Communications on Benapole- Jessore-Khulna route remained suspended following derailment of two bogies of a commuter train in Navaran area on Sunday morning, reports UNB.
Saiduzzaman, station master of Benapole Railway station, said that two bogies of the Benapole-bound commuter train veered off the track in an area adjacent to Navaran Railway station around 9am, disrupting train movement on the route.
A relief train from Khulna reached the spot around 1pm and is trying to remove the bogies from the rail track, said the station master.
Man found dead in B’baria
Brahmanbaria: Police recovered the body of a man from Sadar union of Nasirnagar upazila on Saturday morning, reports UNB.
Locals spotted the body under the Dantmandal bridge around 9:30 am and informed police, said officer-in-charge of Nasirnagar Police Station Abu Jafar.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said the OC, adding that the identity of the deceased, aged around 45, is yet to be found.
The body bore injury marks on the chest.
Elderly man killed in road accident

A 70-year-old man was killed in a road accident in Tara area on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway under Sadar upazila of Manikganj district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Basir Choukidar, 70, a resident of Tara in the upazila.
Yeamin-Ud-Doula, officer-in-charge of Barongail Highway police station said the accident took place at around 5.30pm when a sand laden truck hit Basir Chaukider from behind while he was crossing the road.
The body was sent to 250-bed Manikganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
A case was filed with Barongail Highway police station in this connection. Police seized the killer truck, but its driver and helper managed to escape.
Student’s body recovered

Police recovered the body of a schoolgirl from Fokirpara Basidebi village in Thakurgaon yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Nazmin Akter, 14, daughter of Nur Nabi, an inhabitant of Fokirpara Basidebi village in the district. Nazmin was a student of class eight VIII in Salandor High School.
Police and local sources said Nazmin was missing since Saturday afternoon. On that day she went to see their paddy field and did not return home. Next morning villagers saw her body hanging from a tree. On information, a police team from Thakurgaon sadar police station went to the spot and recovered the body at around 12.30pm.
Officer-in-charge of Thakurgaon sadar police station Mosiur Rahman confirmed the incident.
Lalon Shah’s 127th death anniversary today
KUSHTIA: The 127th death anniversary of Fakir Lalon Shah, the most prominent figure of country’s baul tradition, will be observed today amid tight security measures, reports BSS.
Marking his death anniversary, different programmes including a three-day fair from October 16 to 18, cultural function, conference of bauls, discussion and presentation of Lalon songs will be held on the bank of the river Kaliganga at Chheuriya here, where Lalon’s shrine is located.
Lalon Academy President and Kustia Deputy Commissioner (DC) M Jahir Raihan told BSS that like previous years local administration has taken tight security measures to avert any untoward incident on the occasion.
Two minor girls drown in Bhola
BHOLA: Two baby girls drowned in pond in two separate incidents in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The girls are identified as Khadiza, 02, hailed from Ratonpur village and Nasrin, one and half a year, was a resident at Joygupt village of the upazila.
Local people said Khadiza drowned in the morning a nearby pond when she was playing outside home. She was admitted to a hospital where the duty doctor declared her dead.
Besides, infant Nasrin drowned in a pond adjacent to her house at Joygupt village in the morning. She was brought to Bhola Sadar Hospital, but the duty doctor found her dead. Officer-in-Charge of Bhola Model Thana Mir Khairul Kabir confirmed the incidents.
