Accusing Law Minister Anisul Huq of violating his oath through giving 'false' information about Chief Justice SK Sinha's illness, BNP yesterday demanded his resignation, reports UNB. "The law minister gas lied saying that the Chief Justice was suffering from cancer. But, he (CJ) yesterday (Friday) said he's well. While becoming minister, he (Huq) had taken oath that he wouldn't lie or do any thing out of his anger or affection. So, he should now step down for lying," said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Speaking at a human chain programme, he also said the law minister should be punished for resorting to lies. "The law minister will be punished when the rule of law will be established in the country." Jatiya Gonotantrik Andolan, a pro-BNP platform, arranged the programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club, protesting the issuance of warrants for the arrest of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in three cases.
Rizvi said the law minister said Sinha went on leave on health grounds, which is not correct. Mentioning that the law minister's father was a noted lawyer, the BNP leader said Anisul is destroying his family's image through his negative activities.
He said people's security and their right to get justice is now at stake as the Chief Justice himself voiced doubt over the independence of the judiciary. Rizvi urged the country's people to stand by the Chief Justice as he said he would return home after his leave.
