Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said that the authorities concerned will take necessary legal action against BNP chief Khaleda Zia once she returns to the country. “It is our duty to implement the court order,” he told reporters after attending a discussion marking the international day of older persons, held at the auditorium of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation in the capital. “The law will take its own course,” the home minister said.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said that the BNP chief may return to the country as early as this week. The court has already issued three different warrants of arrest for Khaleda in three cases filed against her. On Thursday, arrest warrants were issued against Khaleda Zia in two separate cases filed against her in connection with the Zia Orphanage Trust graft and the incident of ‘undermining the country’s map and national flag’. On October 10, a court in Comilla issued warrants for the arrest of the BNP chief and 45 other leaders and activists of the party in a case filed in
connection with a petrol bomb attack on a bus in Chouddagram upazila in 2015. Khaleda Zia has been in London since July 15 for medical treatment and is staying at her elder son Tarique Rahman’s house.
Tarique, who faces a slew of corruption charges, has been living in London since 2008 after being released on parole during the military-backed caretaker government.
