China tasted their first win in the Hero Asia Cup Hockey Championship after defeating Oman by 2-1 yesterday at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium.
Despite suffered defeats in the previous match but it was very important for both to upgrading their rankings and in the almost evenly fought match. Guo Talake led China in the seventh minute converting a penalty corner but the lead for China lasted for only one minute when the similar strength team Oman leveled it on eighth minute.
Rashad Fazari finished the combination of Younis-Rajab-Khalid when his strong hit sounded the board to bring Oman in the competition (1-1).
Malaysia-Korea
In the day’s other match, rising powerhouses of Asian hockey Malaysia stunned the four times and the defending champions South Korea with inflicting a 2-1 defeat to brighten their chance to make a room in the last four.
Malaysia took the lead on 17th minute when Faiz Jali converted a penalty corner and doubled the advantage through Saari Fitri scored a beautiful goal just two minutes later.
Korea after struggling much reduced one on 26th minute when Lee Seunghoon struck with a close range hit after receiving the ball from combined attack.
Malaysia, apart from some few minutes in the quarter, were in better in ball possession when they were forced to go on defensive strategy to tackle the immense pressure from Korea who won two penalty corners in the last two minutes.
Finally Malaysia did it success to overcome one the top favourites Korea to winning the match by 2-1.
