Naeem hits double ton as Rangpur build mammoth total

Naeem Islam’s career-best 216 helped Rangpur Davison build a run-mountain before  declaring their first innings at 560-8 against Dhaka Division on the close of the second day of the fifth round game in the Tier-1 of the National Cricket League at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium (SANS), Khulan yesterday.

Another match of the top tier, Khulna Division also declared their first innings 511-8 against Barisal Division at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium, Rajshahi.

Despite Mizanur Rahman’s century, Rajshahi Division still have a deficit of 31 runs against Chittagong Division in Tier- 2 match at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium, Bogra.

Elsewhere at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, Enamul Haque Jr five-for halted the progress of the Dhaka Metro as they collected 231 for eight.     

Dhaka vs Rangpur

Resuming the day-2 at 321-4, Rangpur Division added 239 before declaring their first innings 560-8. En route to his well-composed 216, Naeem Islam hit an invaluable 183 runs with Ariful Haque for the sixth wicket stand. Naeem, who earlier broke into the 7000-run club in the country’s first class cricket as the fifth batsman after Tushar Imran (9806), Alok Kapali (8382), Rajin Saleh (7943), Forhad Hossain (7249), Mohammad Ashraful (7229) and Shahriar Nafees (7044) as he was just 18 runs away to enter into the record book the before the onset of the fifth round match.

He adroitly converted his overnight score of 120 to double hundred. In the ongoing league, the experienced all-rounder slammed his double as the second batsman after Anamul Haque Bijoy. Before being caught out, the national discard clobbered 349-ball 216 that studded with 23 boundaries and five sixes.

Rangpur declared their innings after Ariful Haque brought up his century.

In reply, Dhaka Division scored 54 for the loss of one wicket, still trailing 506 runs. Abdul Majid, on 25, and Minhaj Khan, on three, remained unbeaten.

Barisal vs Khulna

Khulna Division resumed the day-2 at 307-4 and added 204 runs before declaring the first inning at 511-8. After Robiul Islam Robi, all-rounder Zaiur Rahman cracked century. He clouted 152 off 222, hitting 11 fours and six sixes.

Overnight batsman Nahidul Islam lashed fifty before being holed out. Sohag Gazi claimed four wickets for Barisal. Barisal Division in reply put on 94 for four in their first innings, still trailing on 417.  

Chittagong vs Rajshahi

Rajshahi Division’s innings was halted for three hours due to rains from 1:03pm to 4:15. For this they had got to play 60 overs. Resuming the second day at 34-2, Rajshahi Division compiled 229 for five before bails were drawn for the day. Mizanur Rahman blasted 102 off 163 with a round dozen fours and two sixes before being dismissed.

Delwar Hossain got out for 62, while Forhad Hossain, on eight and Tauhid Hridoy on 17 remained unbeaten.

Sylhet vs Metro

Dhaka Metro put on 231 for eight in reply to Sylhet Division’s first innings 319. Enamul Haque Jr picked up five wickets with his spin magic including the prized wicket of captain Marshal Ayub, who fell just two runs short of his century.
