Youth hacked dead in Gazipur
A young man was stabbed to death by miscreants in Moktar Bari area of Tongi on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Saikat Hossain, 24, son of Kabir Hossain, a resident of Ershadnagar Dattapara area of the city.
Ashraful Hasan, sub-inspector of Tongi Police Station, said that a gang of miscreants attacked Saikat around 10:00 pm in the area over previous enmity, leaving him critically injured.
Later, he was rushed to Uttara Adhunik Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 11:30 pm. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Taj Uddin Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.
48 arrested in Comilla
Police in an overnight drive arrested 48 people accused in different cases from different areas under 17 police stations in Comilla early Saturday.
Police conducted drives from Friday night to Saturday morning and arrested 48 people accused in murder, women repression, robbery, drug and other crimes. Police said that the arrestees were on run to avoid arrest.
The arrestees were produced before a court here on Saturday, said sources at the office of Superintendent of Police.
Man killed by brother in Barisal
A man was killed allegedly by his younger brother at Bilbabari village in Barisal on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Khokon Paul, 49, son of late Niranjan Paul.
Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gouronadi Police Station, said that there had a dispute between Khokon and his younger brother.
Over the previous enmity, Khokon locked into an altercation with his younger brother Ratan Paul around 9:30 pm. At one stage, Ratan hit on his brother's head with a stick, leaving him dead on the spot.
Kanchan Bridge lane off-limits to traffic
One of the two lanes of the Kanchan Bridge on Dhaka Bypass Road will remain restricted to traffic from early Saturday for the emergency renovation work of the bridge.
From 12am Saturday to 12am on October 20, the vehicles from both sides of the bridge will ply through the other lane, said Road Transport and Highways Division release on Friday.
Vehicles have been requested to use alternative routes to avoid traffic jam.
Worker’s body found in pond
The body of a brick kiln worker was recovered from a pond of Tepukhuria village in Bagha upazila on Friday morning, a day after he went missing.
The deceased was identified as Ripon, 30, son of Dhola Miah, hailing from Dhamrai upazila in Dhaka.
Ali Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Bagha Police Station, said Ripon went missing on Thursday noon after he went to the pond for taking bath.
A team of divers from the district town reached the spot around 10am and recovered the body around 11:30am, said the OC. Later, the body was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
5 injured in road crash
Five people were injured as a bus hit three vehicles, including a police vehicle, in the capital's Moghbazar Wireless Gate area on Friday.
The identities of the victims could not be known yet.
Quoting witnesses, police said a Mouchak-bound bus of 'Labbaik Paribahan' dashed a police vehicle, a CNG run auto-rickshaw and a rickshaw from behind around 12:30 pm as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving five people injured.
On information, Motahar Hossain, sub-inspector of Ramna Police Station, went to the spot and seized the bus. None was arrested in this connection.
