More than one hundred youth representing Bangladesh are taking part in the week-long World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS) 2017 that began yesterday in Sochi Russia, reports BSS.
According to a message received here yesterday that a over 20,000 young people aged between 18 and 35, from 150 countries have gathered in Sochi to attend the festival in Sachi which hosted the Winter Olympic Games and Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2014.
An elaborate programme has been chalked out for the participants including events related to science and education, culture and sports, it said. Bangladesh delegation among others includes some young professionals, who are oriented to research and new technologies.
The first World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS) was organized in 1947 in Prague. Moscow hosted it in 1957 and 1985. The agenda of Sochi WFYS , among others, includes discussion and education events related to the most relevant global problems, in light of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, formulated by the UN. Each day of the festival will be dedicated to one of the macroregions of the planet: America, Middle East, Asia and Oceania, Europe, and Russia as a host.
The discussion programs include topics such as "Designing the Future: Architecture and Design", "Global Policy and Peace: Challenges of the Future", "Ecology and Health", "The Future of Science and Global Education", "Economy and Entrepreneurship, Drivers of the Future", "Industry 2035", "The Civil Development Platform", "The World Culture 2030" and others. Young filmmakers, artists and designers will present their achievements in various formats. The official languages of the festival are the working languages of the United Nations: English, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, and French.
According to the Director of the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Dhaka Alexander Demin, "The festival will consolidate the global youth community, strengthen links between countries, and develop interaction between nations and cultures." "It is nice to know that the development of cooperation between Russia and Bangladesh is continuing in all areas, including such an important sphere like Youth Exchange. I hope that WFYS will provide a foundation for future development of cooperation between our countries, " he said.
